Thursday, May 9, 2013, the third Expertentreffen took place between 6 and 8 p.m. at Honolulu’s IL GELATO HAWAII. The company’s headquarters are at 501 Sumner Street, Suite 501, Honolulu, HI 96817, ilgelato-hawaii.com. As many as 31 attendees, professionals with profound expertise joined the gathering.
At the reception desk our committee sign-up sheets were successful. Many invitees signed up to became part of possible future committees: Oktoberfest, Film Festival, and Christkindl Market. In additon, we had a "Pitch-In" bowl where may attendees contributed, which will enable the club to organize future events even better.
Dental services, computer system design services, offices of lawyers, Mercedes sales, and financial investment advice services and several other industries contributed to this get-together.
The program started later than scheduled, because the different ice cream flavors were getting a tremendous amount of attention from the audience. The German Club Hawaii president, Alexander Meimer, shortly explained the agenda and introduced the five speakers: Dirk Koeppenkastrop, Ph.D., Robert Boller, Ed.D., Holger Gruenert, Peter Trunk, and Denis Salle.
Our host, Dirk, Maestro Gelaterie/Owner, provided insights into the world of the ice cream industry in Hawaii. He shared moving remembrances with astonishing facts about his distinguished business career in Germany and the United States. Today, the Authentic Italian Ice Cream is available in more than 100 different flavors. Importantly, Dirk announced that at the end of July 2013, a grand opening of a retail store will be held in the Kahala Mall.
Robert Boller is an Assistant Professor of Communicology and Director of Forensics at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa. He is conducting a current research project Expatriate Experiences. Peter Trunk shared his findings about having an Oktoberfest in Hawaii. Finally, there are plans to hold an event in Honolulu 2014.
Holger Gruenert shared his amazing story on how he left Germany in the 1980s, had made his way to Hawaii, and become founder and president of Pacific Instruments pacificinstruments.biz. Holger demonstrated how to use several medical devices.
Denis Salle, the Honorary Consul of the Federal Republic of Germany for the State of Hawai‘i, explained some of his views on the German community on the Sandwich Islands. Meanwhile, nearly 200 German residents visited his office.
During the networking session, attendees participated in lively discussions.
Announcement: November 15, 2013, an event with the UH German Department and Shildler’s Business College is scheduled from 2-4 p.m. Details to come.
