Einheitsparty 2012

The German Consulate spoored a get together at the Berlin Freedom Monument, which displays a piece of the actual Berlin Wall. We had some good German food, like Sausage, Sauerkraut and great Bread from Stephanie.

Our Honorary Consul Denis Salle explained to some extent the history of the Berlin Wall and it fall. We also heard some testimonies on experiences with the wall or the former DDR (East Germany). We also heard the story of how in the world a piece of the wall ended up here in Hawaii, spoored by the German Benevolent Society.

The Berlin wall is powerful symbol the effects of different political and economic systems, even within one country, can have on the development of its people. The falling of the wall is a symbol for the prevailing of freedom.
