In partnership with San Francisco’s Berlin & Beyond Film Festival and Goethe-Institut San Francisco, the Honolulu Museum of Art presents the second Berlin & Beyond Honolulu, a special selection of seven essential and award-winning new films from German-speaking countries.

Berlin & Beyond Honolulu showcases seven narrative and documentary films, six of them Hawai‘i premieres. Among them are two official entries for consideration for the Best Foreign Language Film category of the 2015 Academy Awards and two “sneak peek” films that will later screen in the main Berlin & Beyond Film Festival’s soon-to-be revealed 2015 lineup.

This Honolulu series is organized and programmed by the Honolulu Museum of Art film curator Abbie Algar; Sabine Erlenwein, director of the Goethe-Institut San Francisco and Berlin & Beyond’s board president; Christina Gerhardt, assistant professor of German, University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa; Sophoan Sorn, director of the Berlin & Beyond Film Festival. The organizers are honored to partner with Theres Ryf Desai, Honorary Consul of Switzerland in Hawai‘i, and Denis Salle, Honorary Consul of the Federal Republic of Germany in Hawai‘i. Sponsors include the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in San Francisco, the Consulate General of Switzerland in San Francisco and the German Benevolent Society.

Opening-night reception

Nov 21, 6-7:30pm. $35, $30 museum members. Click here to purchase tickets for the opening-night reception and screening. 

Enjoy German-inspired dishes with a glass of wine, beer or soda in the museum’s Luce Pavilion Courtyard. The Whole Shebang screens at 7:30pm.
